Are you interested in becoming a midwife or birth professional? Do you want a deeper understanding of what it would mean to be a midwife, both spiritually and practically?
Join us for this comprehensive two-week retreat and training in San Marcos La Laguna on the shores of Lake Atitlan, Guatemala.
This intensive course offers a deep and unique dive into the world of midwifery. Guatemala is one of the few countries in the world that still has a strong culture of traditional midwifery. You will learn directly from professional midwives from Europe and the US, as well as from traditional Guatemalan midwives (comadronas).
This course is designed for individuals considering a career in midwifery or in the field of pregnancy and women’s health. It is also open to current birth workers such as doulas who desire further education in their field. If you are simply interested in midwifery and women’s health, particularly through a global health lens, then we encourage you to join us. No prior healthcare experience or midwifery training is required.
During this course, you will receive a combination of theoretical lecture-based learning coupled with practical hands-on skills. By the end of this course you will know how to conduct a prenatal intake, complete a pregnancy health history, and perform a basic prenatal and postpartum visit. You will learn about the different paths to becoming a midwife and gain an understanding of practice setting options from both an American Certified Nurse Midwife and a Belgian Professional Licensed Midwife.
Together, we have a wide variety of experience in hospital-based, birth center, and home birth. We have both practiced midwifery at home and in the developing world, particularly alongside traditional indigenous midwives in Guatemala.
