Together, we’ll travel to Guatemala, where there are papaya, banana and avocadotree groves. We’ll stay in the town of San Marcos, on the banks of Lake Atitlan, at Hotal Aaculaax, a locally owned eco-retreat built with beauty and sustainability in mind.
Each day will start with a breakfast buffet. A short walk on leafy foot paths will bring you to your practice space for meditation and asana classes where the beauty of the space and the consistency of your effort may take you to deeper levels than you have previously known. We’ll travel together to Chichicastenango, Guatemala’s most vibrant marketplace, where swirls of incense form columns in the air and walls are created from rich, hand-sewn fabrics.
Other than that, afternoons will be yours to lie like a lizard on a warm boulder before dipping into Atitlan’s healing waters; enjoy a massage or other body therapy; take a hike; or lunch in one of San Marcos’ cafes, which all source their food from local organic gardens and permaculture farms. If you like, we can connect you with opportunities to learn from a Mayan Kakchiquel medicine person; to make art from found materials with local artisans; to learn about acupuncture as it’s practiced in Guatemala; or to learn about some of the remarkable environmentally sustainable practices being implemented in this forward-thinking community.
Early evenings will be time to practice sequences specifically designed to open and sustain you: yin yoga and meditation, followed by communal dinner. Later, we’ll join in Satsang, sometimes chanting names of the Divine, or discussing the deeper dimensions of yoga, or learning more about the sweet, sacred history of Lagos Atitlan.
